Playwright: Charly E. Simpson

CHARLY EVON SIMPSON, originally from New Jersey, is a writer currently based in Philadelphia, PA. She received her B.A. in Theatre Arts and Literary Arts from Brown University and has a master’s in Women’s Studies from the University of Oxford, New College. Her plays include In the Beginning and or what she will. In 2011, or what she will was selected as a finalist in Sanguine Theatre Company’s Project Playwright. Her personal essay, In the Shadows, is included in the anthology, A Book of Meditations: Volume III. She is the recipient of the 2008 Kim Ann Arstrak Memorial Award in Poetry as well as the 2008 Dorothy Stickney Theatre Arts Scholarship presented by the Zonta Club of New York. Ms. Simpson is also also an actor and director. Credits include work with the 2006 Hangar Theatre Lab Company, director of References to Salvador Dalí Make Me Hot at Production Workshop and assistant director of boom at the Brown/Trinity Playwright’s Repertory. In addition to her work in the arts, Charly tutored at-risk youth in Massachusetts and was assistant director at a camp in Pennsylvania dedicated to working with children in need of emotional and/or autistic support.
